Straight-grain and round hardwood dowels work best. Oil dowel with mineral or boiled linseed oil (not included), or better yet, soak dowel in oil for several days before machining to reduce friction and tearout. The two-handled threadbox cuts the male threads. Hard polypropylene threadbox includes ergonomic 2-1/2 inch long x 1 inch diameter turned handles for secure and easy gripping. Threadbox has aluminum inserts to prevent excessive wear. Designed to allow easy chip clearance. Package includes 5 sizes polypropylene threadboxs, 7-inch through-hole taps with handles and instructions The matching tap dies cut the internal female threads. Hardened steel taps are machined to close tolerances. Taps are designed for through holes.
